General Information About the Hearing

The Assembly Committee on Jobs, Economic Development, and the Economy (JEDE), and the Assembly Select Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship (SB&E) are convening a joint informational hearing examining the needs of women- and minority-owned small businesses during the latter stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

This is the third in a series of JEDE hearings and the second in a series of SB&E hearings which focus on small busienss economic recovery.  Future hearings will focus on workforce development, access to capital, and regulatory hurdles.  Information and recommendations received during the hearing will serve as a foundation for oversight and evaluation of state programs and legislative proposals in the current and future legislative sessions.

The August 18 hearing will continue to examine how the state can innovate program and service delivery to address the needs of those small businesses most impacted by the economic fallout from COVID-19.  During the course of the hearing, witnesses will share information and engage with Committee Members on issues relating to business start-ups, business recovery, and the evolving COID-19 market place.  

The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at the California State Capitol, Assembly Chamber, from 2:00 to 4:30 pm.

Who is JEDE?

JEDE is the policy committee within the California State Assembly responsible for reviewing policies and legislation related to small business development, international trade, and other economic development related issues.  The committee regularly publishes reports on these areas of interest.  Copies of these reports are available online at ajed.assembly.ca.gov.

Who is SB&E?

SB&E is a select committee within the California State Assembly responsible for responsible for undertaking research in the area of  small business and entrepreneurship.  The SB&E can sponsor and develop legislation, as well as release reports on related topics.  The committee is holding a series of hearing on small business recovery.  Background from other hearings may be found online at   assembly.ca.gov/smallbusinessentrepreneurship.
